The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 has unveiled its official entries, promising an exciting lineup of films set to grace the big screen this Christmas season. With a mix of genres, star-studded casts, and captivating stories, the festival has once again captured the attention of movie enthusiasts. The grand reveal at the MMFF Awards Night 2023 added an extra layer of excitement to the festival. "Firefly" claimed the coveted title of Best Picture, with "Gomburza" and "Mallari" taking the second and third spots, respectively. "When I Met You In Tokyo" secured the fourth Best Picture award, cementing its place among the festival's standout films.


Pepe Diokno emerged as the Best Director for his outstanding work on "Gomburza," while Cedrick Juan's compelling performance in the same film earned him the Best Actor award. Vilma Santos captivated audiences with her role in "When I Met You In Tokyo," making her the title of Best Actress.

Beyond the significant categories, the MMFF 2023 awards night showcased excellence in various aspects of filmmaking. JC Santos (Mallari) and Miles Ocampo (Family of Two) were recognized as Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Euwenn Mikaell (Firefly) charmed audiences and secured the title of Best Child Performer.


The creative minds behind the films were also honored, with Angeli Atienza's screenplay for "Firefly" earning the Best Screenplay award and Carlo Canlas Mendoza's cinematography in "Gomburza" recognized as the Best Cinematography.


The MMFF also acknowledged outstanding contributions to Philippine cinema through special awards, such as the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence, the Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award, and the Gender Sensitivity Award.
