BINANGONAN, Rizal – If not for the complaint over the foul smell, the case regarding the disappearance of a retired soldier on an island barangay of this locality would have remained a mystery.
According to the local police, 69-year old Rodolfo Lirio, a retired member of theArmed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who was reported missing since December 26, was found buried inside his backyard in Purok Uno of Barangay Habagatan.
During the investigation, a witness claimed that Lirio and a certain Alvin had a heated argument before the retired soldier was gone, for which a follow-up operation was conducted resulting in the arrest of the suspect who admitted the crime.
Previously, residents of Purok Uno sought the help of Habagatan barangay chairperson Marzen Binaluyo, who immediately asked assistance from the Binangonan Police to trace the origin of the foul odor.
It was then that Lirio’s body was found.
The suspect insisted that he didn't plan on killing Lirio – “Nagtalo lang kami talaga. Nauwi sa suntukan hanggang sa makadampot ang ng matigas na bagay na hinataw ko sa ulo niya. Sa pagkataranta ko, humukay na lang ako sa bakuran niya at dun ko din siya ibinaon.”
