Filipina peace negotiator and professor, Miram Coronel-Ferrer, is among the transformative individuals who received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, considered as Asia's Nobel Prize that champions selfless people in Asia.
Ferrer works in the inclusive participation of women in peace-building. In 2020, she co-founded Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators that engaged women on safe space for dialogues.
Ferrer had a long history in supporting women in the international peace process.
She was among student activists that resisted against martial rule.
In 1986, Ferrer drafted the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security, a first in the Philippines. This was adopted by the Philippine Government in 2010 in adherence to the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
During the administration of Former Benigno Aquino III, Ferrer chaired Philippines' Peace Panel with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) resulting in the signing of Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
Other Ramon Magsaysay awardees are: Korvi Rakshand of Bangladesh, championing Education for All; Ravi Karran R. of India, a Hero for Holistic Healthcare, and Timor-Leste's Eugenio Lemos, a Food Sovereignty Visionary.
