The "Araw ng Biñan" celebrations for 2025 will be a special one for Biñan City, Laguna and its residents, officials bared to OpinYon Laguna.

This, as the city government finally released its schedule of activities for the three-day festival, from February 2 to 4

With the theme "Isang Biñan: Tagumpay and Kagitingan," the 2025 "Araw ng Biñan 1580" will commemorate two major milestones in the city's history: the 15th anniversary of Biñan’s cityhood, as well as the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Biñan from Japanese forces during World War II.

"Gusto nating ipakita sa mga tao na napagtagumpayan natin ang mga achievement ng ating lungsod dahil sa hard work, cooperation and togetherness. Tayo ay 'isang Biñan' na lumilingon sa nakaraan at tutungo sa hinaharap," BJ Borja, head of the Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO), told OpinYon Laguna.

Achievements and milestones

Apart from commemorating its history and culture, Borja said this year’s “Araw ng Biñan” will also center on the major achievements of the Biñan City LGU in the past years.

On February 4 (Foundation Day), various infrastructure projects, including various school buildings, the Villa Aguila Housing Project in Barangay Santo Tomas, the Senior Citizens Center, the PWD Center, and the Biñan City Jail, will be officially opened to the public.

Also in the roster of events is the groundbreaking of new school buildings in Barangays Malaban, Santo Domingo and Santo Niño, as well as two new housing developments in Barangays Zapote and Santo Tomas.

Also slated for inauguration is the Biñan Elevated Parking Facility and Sentro ng Patanghal na Sining ng Biñan on February 2; and the Biñan City Hospital, the Biñan Super Health Center II, the Meadow Housing Project and the City Legislative Building on February 3.

"Ang nais nating i-emphasize ay ang mga project na ito ang mga bunga ng tagumpay at kagitingan, ang katuparan ng mga programa na pinasimulan ng ating 'Big Three' leaders. At nais rin nating ipakita na sa Biñan City, all dreams are realized," Borja explained.

Commemorations

Liberation Day (February 3), on the other hand, will center on the commemoration of the city’s cultural heritage.

Aside from the much-anticipated Ceremonial March from Carmona City, Cavite to Biñan and the "Pasasalamat sa mga Beteranong Biñanense," there will also be a "Historical Journey Exhibition" at the Alberto Mansion and the Biñan Photo Exhibit, in cooperation with JCI Biñan, at the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan.

Cultural presentations will also take center stage, with the "Art in Public Spaces" wall mural competition at the Biñan Football Field Complex; a "Tanghal Tula: Spoken Word Poetry Contest" at the Plaza Rizal; and the 8th Biñan National Choral Festival at the La Consolacion College on February 2.
