2023 Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee has just been given the People’s Legacy Award for her advocacies in caring for humanity, two of them the welfare of People with Disabilities (PWDs) and People with Non-Communicable Disease (NCD).

At the awarding rites recently held at the QC X Business Center inside the Quezon Memorial Circle Park in Quezon City, Michelle expressed her gratitude in recognizing her initiatives in supporting people with disabilities.

“I always devote time to helping people with disabilities. It has always been my pride to advocate for them,” she said when she accepted the award from Richard Hinola of Philippines’ Best Magazine which spearheaded the awarding along with Lovelife Project, a socio-civic group headed by Filipino filmmaker Cris Pablo and Yeaha Channel.

Michelle is passionate about helping people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) because of her personal experiences of the syndrome in her family.

The award, according to Michelle, is a testament of her objectives to make people aware of the facts and information about PWDs and NCDs.

Dee’s primary objective in advocating for disabled persons is to educate, orient and reorient people in addressing the disorder both from the affected and the society.

Michelle believes in the medically proven case that autism isn’t a behavioral deficiency.

The People’s Legacy Award, said the beauty queen, is one way of understanding the disabilities and their psychosocial intervention.

Hinola said that Michelle's participation in the awards added dimension to his cause.

“Michelle and I have common causes—to care for the marginalized,” pointed out Richard.

The other recipients of the award include Patricia Javier, Ara Mina, and Sheralene Shirata, among others.
