All is well at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport since Day 1 of Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2023

A total of 583,007 passengers across all terminals of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and an aggregate of 3,675 commercial flights recorded since April 1 all pointed to improved operations, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Thursday.

The MIAA said the airline On-Time-Performance (OTP) at the NAIA had showed significant improvement due to the smooth flow of passengers in the four terminals.

"Our high OTP ratings indicate that flights depart from and arrive at NAIA on time. This demonstrates that we are able to prevent passenger crowding at the airport due to the continuous dispatch, departure, and arrival of flights. Queuing also has become manageable," MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong said, citing the OTP ratings from April 1 to 5 of 70.21 percent, 86.60 percent, 91.67 percent, 87.07 percent and 81.53 percent, respectively.

The improvement, he added, was the result of collaboration with the airlines, ground handlers, and the government agencies such as the Bureau of Immigration, the Office for Transportation Security, Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Quarantine, among others.

Inspecting the main international gateway on April 4, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista expressed confidence over MIAA's preparations for the Lenten rush.

"Makikita natin na maaliwalas yung ating mga terminals. Maayos yung flow ng traffic and makikita mo yung mga employees mg MIAA are all over the place. (All our terminals looked pretty cozy. The flow of traffic is good, and the MIAA employees are all over the place, as well as the officers and employees of airlines," Bautista said, adding that the coordination between NAIA and other government agencies, especially the OTS, is working properly.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, who was also at NAIA Terminal 2, praised the cooperation of all stakeholders which he considers apositive Filipino trait. "The effort is to give tourists and travelers alike a reminder of how beautiful our country is, and how talented the Filipino workers are."

Chiong said arrivalsthis Easter Sunday and Monday would bearound1.2 million passengers.
