Some organic employees of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) have been retained under the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC), which will take over the operations of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) starting Saturday, September 14.
These MIAA organic employees come from certain offices under the authority, which will be abolished once the NNIC assumes control on Saturday.
The decision or modifications will also have an impact on other regular employees, according to MIAA General Manager Eric Ines, as the management and upkeep of NAIA will be transferred to the successful bidder, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC)-led NNIC.
Ines said that the MIAA is bound to help some of the employees by relocating them to other offices, or the MIAA will endorse them to other government agencies since all of them are civil service eligible.
Those who were hired by NNIC will be given a Separation Incentive Pay by MIAA, as mandated by the Executive Order.
The Fire and Rescue, as well as the Medical Department, were transferred to NNIC, while the administration and finance department, airport police, and engineering will remain under MIAA.
All MIAA contractual employees such as security guards, and building attendants, were only given until next March.
The projects currently in progress, including the taxiway upgrade, runway lights, expansion of immigration counters at NAIA Terminal 3, and waterproofing at NAIA Terminal 2, will be completed by MIAA, even if it extends into the following year.
Ines said that in May last year, MIAA turned over 75 percent of its earnings collected from operations and leased lots to the National Treasury.
The airport chief said that MIAA will function as a "regulatory body" following the turnover.
The MIAA will monitor NNIC to ensure they are complying with the terms and conditions set in the contract.
Ines also said that the NNIC head reassured the public that operations will continue as usual and any changes will be implemented gradually and systematically to prevent disruptions.
