The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is looking forward to its newly designated role as the overseeing body for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said Tuesday, October 8, that the MIAA is undergoing significant transformations, one of which is its shift to becoming the regulatory body for NAIA under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with the newly appointed operator, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC).

The government is looking forward to the development plan of NNIC for NAIA.

This collaboration will enable MIAA to concentrate on carrying out essential government duties, ensuring that the government can keep safeguarding its interests both domestically and internationally.

Restructuring

Along with the regulatory transition, Ines shared information about the continued restructuring happening within MIAA.

It said that 844 plantilla positions were abolished, with a particular emphasis on those positions held by employees who transferred to the NNIC.

According to the MIAA, 429 out of more than 1,000 organic personnel were transferred to NNIC. These employees are responsible for the operations and are experienced in running NAIA.

As part of the process, those employees will be given their Separation Incentive Pay (SIP), ensuring that they are fairly compensated for their departure from MIAA.

The MIAA chief also shared that MIAA's proposed new organization structure has already been submitted to the Governance Commission for GOCCs for approval.

Once approved, the new structure will help streamline operations and strengthen MIAA's regulatory capacity, ensuring that the agency can effectively monitor the progress and development of NAIA.

Ines called on the continued support and active participation of MIAA's remaining employees, stressing that their role will be critical in ensuring the success of the transformation and the effective regulation of the country's main international gateway.
