The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Thursday it had donated essential items to families affected by the fire in Paranaque City.
The MIAA distributed, through its Lingap Kapwa outreach initiative, 500 repacked eco-bags containing assorted items to at least 465 individuals displaced by a recent fire in Barangay BF Homes, Sucat, Paranaque City.
MIAA's donations were turned over to Barangay officials and Homeowners Association on March 25, held at Aratelis II covered court in Masville, Paranaque City.
The assorted items include used clothes, bags, slippers, and clothing for children and adults.
According to MIAA, these donated items were sourced from the airport's Lost and Found inventory, which, as per MIAA's revised guidelines and Memorandum Circular No. 5, Series of 2021, that after the lapse of the six months retention period, the unclaimed items shall be donated to charitable institutions and/or MIAA-sponsored outreach programs.
The donation drive is part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, which include disaster response, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts, and medical and social services programs.
"MIAA's mission is to transform unclaimed belongings into meaningful contributions for communities affected by calamities, ensuring that no resource goes to waste in bringing aid to those who need it most," MIAA said.
MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said that through the Lingap Kapwa Task Force the authority is dedicated to extending relief and assistance to help affected families rebuild their lives with hope and dignity.
“Through the Lingap Kapwa Task Force, we are dedicated to extending relief and assistance to help the affected families rebuild their lives with hope and dignity,” Ines said.
“Let’s continue to support and uplift each other, remembering that in moments of darkness, tayo-tayo lang ang magtutulungan (we're the only ones who can support each other),” he added.
