THE unbearable traffic congestion in Metro Manila is about to get worse – at least for the time being – as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) starts road repair and reblocking on 20 major roads around the National Capital Region.

Among the cities affected by the simultaneous road repairs by the DPWH include Quezon City, Manila, Pasig, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, San Juan and Malabon.

In an advisory, the DPWH hinted at a slowdown in traffic at the northbound lane of the C-5 Road, C-5 Road E. Mejia Street near C-5 Service Road, C-5 Service Road near E. Mejia Street, and along C-5 Road near Casa Verde all in Pasig City.

Expect heavy traffic at the C-5 Road to Korean Embassy Southbound 3rd lane in Makati City.

Traffic flow will also affect Caloocan City in view of road works along C-3 Road Eastbound between C. Cordero to Rizal Ave., C-3 Road Eastbound between Rizal Ave. to M. H del Pilar St. and EDSA Northbound between Don Vicente Ang to Gen. Evangelista.

Likewise seen to suffer slow-moving traffic is Pasay City because of road repairs at the fourth lane of the EDSA Taft Avenue Northbound to MRT Station and EDSA Southbound after Malibay Bridge.

DPWH also noted some repairs at the EDSA Annapolis Northbound to Connecticut in San Juan City, and another at the corner of Taft Avenue and Pedro Gil St. in the City of Manila.

Interestingly, the most number of roadworks are in Quezon City – Mindanao Ave. Southbound, after U-Turn to after Mindanao Ave. Tunnel,, A. Bonifacio Ave. Northbound corner Sgt. Rivera Street, Commonwealth Ave. Northbound from B. Soliven Street to Doña Carmen, Commonwealth Ave. Northbound from Kristong Hari to B. Soliven Street, C-5 Road Southbound after Magsaysay Ave. near U- Turn Slot, C-5 Road Southbound after Magsaysay Ave., C-5 Road Southbound after C-5 and Ayala Heights Intersection, Commonwealth Ave. Southbound from Shell Gas Station to Zuzuarregui Street and Rizal Ave. Exit Northbound between 11th Ave. and Bustamante St.

Slow-moving traffic is also expected at the Mc Arthur Highway Northbound in Malabon City.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded motorists to take alternative routes.
