This, as the city once again celebrates its primary feast, the Sampaguita Festival, with a string of activities highlighting the local government's efforts to revive the city's traditional sampaguita industry.

With the theme "Sampaguita: Puso ng Pagkakaisa," the city government also aims to display the unique traits that unite residents of Laguna's "Dormitory City," Jhe-Rico Sam Colina, head of the San Pedro City Tourism, Culture and Arts Office (CTCAO), said.

"Tingnan po natin ang bulaklak ng sampaguita: totoong maganda na po siyang mag-isa, pero kapag pinagbuklod-buklod po natin ang mga bulaklak, mas lilitaw pa ang kanilang kagandahan," was how Colina put it poetically in a message to OpinYon Laguna. "Gayon din po, ang San Pedro po ay mas nagiging maganda dahil sa mga tao nito, and through unity, mas mapapaganda pa po natin ito."

Aside from the usual activities that aim to showcase the beauty and talent of San Pedrenses, the San Pedro City LGU also added some new events to the lineup of activities for the 2024 Sampaguita Festival, Colina shared.

These include the "Sampaguita Awards" honoring the city's top businesses; the Sampaguita "Petstival" which will showcase the beauty of the city's pet animals; an e-sports tournament (the first such citywide competition); and live performances by the Madrigal Singers and other San Pedrense and national artists.

Of course, the country's national flower will take center stage through activities such as the Sampaguita Garland-Making Contest and an "even bigger" Shark Tank competition that aims to discover new products from the sampaguita plant.

"Lahat po ng mga event na aabangan sa Sampaguita Festival ay naka-focus hindi lamang sa sampaguita kundi pati na rin sa kultura at sa mga tao ng San Pedro," Colina stressed.
