Catbalogan City, Samar- On November 26, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Matuguinao, under the direction of Mayor Aran Boller, and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), headed by Ma'am Arlyn C. Alegria, celebrated National Children's Month with a lively event that emphasized the value of protecting children's rights.
Mayor Boller underscored the critical need to ensure that every child’s rights to education, protection, health, and participation are fully recognized and respected.
He urged all facets of society—local government agencies, educational institutions, and families—to work together to give Matuguinao's children a secure and supportive environment.
The event included a range of activities designed to empower and involve children while increasing awareness of their rights.
A touching gift-giving segment that made the young participants happy was one of the activities that were actively facilitated by organizations like the Save the Children Foundation, WESADEF, Child Development Workers, and JCI Matuguinao Makarato.
National Children's Month is celebrated every November in the Philippines to commemorate the country's adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in November 1989.
The initiative was institutionalized in 2015 through Republic Act No. 10661, building on its first celebration in 1992.
This year’s celebration in Matuguinao serves as a reminder of the community’s commitment to upholding children’s rights and creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
