It makes a difference when filmmakers create movies to inspire, motivate and act, for or against, an issue especially those of national import that affect the lives of citizens from all walks of life.
What more if they are made popular by moviegoers themselves by watching them.
2024 Cinemalaya's "Balota" is one of them.
The film which stars Marian Rivera and directed by Kip Oebanda is about the liberation of oppressed, complacent and unenlightened voters from corrupt, cheating candidates who are saved by a courageous poll-watcher teacher by getting away with the ballot box of voters defying tyranny.
"Balota" is reportedly making money at Netflix.
"Thank you for making its debut at number one on Netflix! In these challenging times for Philippine cinema, it’s a rare and incredible gift to find people who not only share a passion for storytelling but also a deep love for our country. Whether through documentary or narrative film, the journey becomes meaningful when you’re working with people who pour their hearts into every frame. Collaborating with Marian Rivera and Kip Oebanda has been nothing short of inspiring—an experience filled with purpose, creativity, and joy. I’m beyond grateful for this journey and excited for what’s next," stated the editor of the film, Chuck Gutierrez.
