Marcos appointed Attorney Tugade as the new general manager of MIAA.
President Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Jose Arturo "Jay Art" Tugade as the new general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
Press Office OIC Cheloy Garafil affirmed that Tugade was named as MIAA's acting GM/CEO and member of the MIAA board, replacing Cesar Chiong.
The new MIAA head is the youngest son of former Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, who served under President Duterte, Manila Times reported.
Tugade is a law graduate of San Beda University and is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. He worked part-time as an undergraduate instructor at SBU.
He has extensive knowledge of the logistics sector of the travel and aviation industries, and the petroleum and freight/ cargo handling.
Tugade will also manage the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Marcos to expand international airports
In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July, Marcos bared his plan to expand international airports and renovate existing ones to increase tourism and relieve pressure on the NAIA.
"To boost our tourism industry, we will make basic developments such as road improvements for easier access to tourism spots. We will also upgrade our airports and create more international airports to help decongest the bottleneck at the NAIA Airport." Marcos said.
Marcos directed the Department of Tourism (DoT) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to partner in making the plan possible.
"And we must provide infrastructure to develop that access, the infrastructure to develop that area," Marcos added.
