In an apparent bid to transform Manila into a world-class city, the city government of Manila and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) forged a partnership that will pave the way for an updated comprehensive land use plan.
According to Mayor Honey Lacuna, the collaboration will be the blueprint that would serve as their guide in transforming Manila into a global city at par – if not better than Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo.
Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of DHSUD is Secretary Jerry Acuzar.
The local chief executive expressed optimism that the plan will create safe, vibrant, and walkable neighborhoods while ensuring that all the residents will have decent and affordable housing.
It will also provide essential amenities in all communities and support economic development.
The city's Current Land Use Plan (CLUP) was crafted during the administration of Mayor Lito Atienza.
"With the collaboration of the city and the DHSUD, what we are given here is a unique opportunity to jointly come up, not with a typical CLUP, but with an innovative and novel plan that gradually transforms our city from being merely livable to becoming lively and ultimately to becoming lovable. The plan is for the premiere city of the country to serve as a model for other highly urbanized cities," the mayor added.
