A horrifying act of domestic violence claimed the lives of two young children in Sitio Cayag-ang, Barangay San Pedro, Albuera, Leyte on Tuesday, June 10, after they were allegedly hacked to death by their mother’s live-in partner.

According to police reports, the victims—a four-year-old girl and her seven-year-old brother—were asleep in their home when a heated argument broke out between their mother and the suspect. In a fit of rage, the man reportedly seized a sundang, a traditional long-bladed weapon, and attacked the mother and her children.

The three victims were rushed to a hospital in Ormoc City. The young girl was declared dead on arrival, while her older brother succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Their mother, who sustained multiple hack wounds, is currently recovering.

Authorities believe jealousy may have been the motive behind the brutal attack. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt and vowed to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“We strongly condemn this heinous act of violence, especially against innocent children,” said a spokesperson from the Albuera Municipal Police. “We are doing everything in our power to locate and apprehend the suspect.”

The incident has shocked the local community, drawing calls for greater protection for women and children in domestic settings. Social workers and local officials are also extending support to the surviving mother.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
