How was it that a man whose vehicle was about to be repossessed was able to crash through the gates of the headquarters of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG)?
That was one question authorities in Laguna province are now seeking to answer as they conduct a full investigation into an incident of road-rage in Santa Rosa City, Laguna last August 4.
At least two motorists were injured after a routine repossession of a vehicle turned into a car chase that resulted in a multiple-vehicle collision along the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road.
According to a report from the Santa Rosa City Police Station, the incident started at around 6:00 in the evening on board a Toyota Vios that was driven by a certain “Jahn,” of legal age and a resident of Barangay Sabang, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
“Jahn” was accompanied by representatives of a financing company who had taken possession of the Vios and were on their way back to Manila when, upon reaching the Susana Heights end of the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), the suspect allegedly turned the vehicle into the southbound portion of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) towards Calamba City.
The representatives were able to ask assistance from SLEX MATES, which provided a patrol vehicle that escorted them to the HPG headquarters in Santa Rosa City.
In the middle of the investigation, “Jahn” allegedly returned to the vehicle on the pretext of retrieving a personal item, after which he rammed the car through the HPG headquarters’ gates.
In the middle of the ensuing pursuit, the suspect crashed into three SUVs, two motorcycles, and an L300 delivery van.
“Jahn” even managed to enter the northbound lane of SLEX before exiting at the Mamplasan Exit in Biñan City, Laguna and abandoning the vehicle at the Mamplasan Rotonda.
Calabarzon Police Regional Office Acting Director P/BGen. Dominic Baccay has ordered a full investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, a hot pursuit operation has been launched against "Jhan," who remains at large as of press time.
"We are utilizing all operational and investigative channels to ensure the immediate apprehension of this individual. Our officers are acting decisively alongside our partner agencies to protect our communities and support the victims," Baccay added.
