The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards has officially announced the full list of nominees in 18 categories for 2024.
The horror film “Mallari”, based on the true story of a parish priest turned serial killer during the 19th century, topped the list with 14 total nominations.
Another true-to-life film – “Gomburza,” the celebrated biopic of the three Filipino priest-martyrs Jose Burgos, Mariano Gomez and Jacinto Zamora – followed, with 12 total nominations.
Veteran and rising actresses dominated the Best Actress Category, including Kathryn Bernardo for “A Very Good Girl,” Maricel Soriano for “In His Mother's Eyes,” Charlie Dizon for “Third World Romance,” Marian Rivera for “Rewind,” Sharon Cuneta for “Family of Two,” and Eugene Domingo for “Becky & Badette.”
Rising actor Cedrick Juan is among the nominees for Best Actor Category for his performance in “Gomburza,” along with Piolo Pascual for “Mallari,” Alfred Vargas for “Pieta,” Ken Chan for “Papa Mascot,” Dingdong Dantes for “Rewind,” and Alden Richards for “Family of Two.”
Nominees for the Best Picture category include “Gomburza,” “Mallari,” “Iti Mapukpukaw,” “Papa Mascot,” “Rewind,” and “A Very Good Girl.”
The Best Directors category will be fought by Pepe Diokno for “Gomburza,” Derick Cabrido for “Mallari,” Carl Papa for “Iti Mapukpukaw,” Louie Ignacio for “Papa Mascot,” Mae Cruz for “Rewind,” and Petersen Vargas for “A Very Good Girl.”
Nominees for Best Supporting Actor include L.A. Santos, JC Santos, Pepe Herrera, Romnick Sarmienta, Enchong Dee, and Soliman Cruz, while the best supporting actresses are Gina Alajar, Dolly De Leon, Gloria Diaz, Liza Dino-Seguerra, Ruby Ruiz, and Alessandra De Rossi.
In the Best Child Actor category, nominees are Jordan Lim for “Rewind,” Kian Co for “Mallari,” and Euwenn Mikael Aleta for “Firefly,” while Best Child Actress nominees are Elia Ilano for “Ghost Tales” and Erin Rose Espiritu for “Papa Mascot” and “Kampon.”
The best cinematography category nominees are Neil Daza for “Rewind” and “Firefly,” Carlo Mendoza for “Gomburza,” Noel Teehankee for “A Very Good Girl,” Kara Moreno for “Third World Romance,” and Pao Orendain for “Mallari.”
Nominees for Best Editing are Noak Tonga, Marga Ignacio, Benjamin Gonzales, and Gilbert Obispo, while Best Production Design is Ericson Navarro, Mariella Hizon, Cheska Salangsang, and Eero Yves Francisco and Jaylo Conanan.
The awards night for the 72nd edition of FAMAS will be held on May 26.
