The town of Majayjay, Laguna has joined the growing number of towns in Laguna province that have been declared free of the threat of Communist insurgency.
Local officials led by Mayor Romeo “Romy” Amorado and the 1st Infantry (Always First) Battalion and 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division of the Philippine Army declared the town to be under "Stable Internal Peace and Security" status during a ceremony held Tuesday, August 27.
According to officials, the state of "Stable Internal Peace and Security" was achieved thanks to the "Whole of Nation" policy that seeks to address the underlying roots of the insurgency.
In addition, to strengthen the community empowerment and support initiatives, the unhindered provision of basic services and programs aimed at reducing poverty, effective communication, the education campaign on peace and development, and the ongoing developmental activities in the areas where communist rebels previously held power.
The ceremony is related to the shared responsibility for peace and order to deny the revival of the influence of the communist rebel groups in Majayjay.
There was also a booth for those who wanted to join the Philippine Army and a free haircut for those who wanted a haircut.
Other Laguna province towns previously declared free of communist rebellion include Nagcarlan, Paete, Kalayaan, Santa Maria, Cavinti, and Famy.
