An advisory from NGCP reported that Luzon would be experiencing supply shortages that could result in outages.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under “yellow alert” on Monday morning.

The yellow alert status is raised whenever a power grid’s power reserve is below the required level or the grid has thin reserves based on the supply and demand, the NGCP said

In an advisory from NGCP, the Luzon Grid was placed under yellow alert from 9 am to 1 pm and later at 1 to 4 p.m. it was placed on red alert, meaning outages are to be expected.

This will then be downgraded back to a yellow alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m..

“The available capacity was estimated at 10,727 megawatts, while the peak demand is seen at 10,585 megawatts” Inquirer reported.

NGCP added that there were 3,627 megawatts lost from the grid as a result of seven power facilities being forced out of service, with three running on reduced capacity.

It is highly encouraged that the public conserves energy and expect power outages in parts of Luzon.
