When one says "waterfalls" in Laguna province, our immediate first thought would be the famous Pagsanjan Falls. It is located in Cavinti town, but the rapids flowing in the river are in Pagsanjan.

But did you know about another, lesser-known waterfall in the nearby town of Luisiana?

This is the Hulugan Falls in Barangay San Salvador, one of the "tallest" waterfalls in Laguna province.

Hulugan Falls has a height of 235 feet or 71 meters. It was said that the falls were named Hulugan due to the weird time when a carabao fell to the falls because of the strong water currents.

Tourists and visitors can chase not only one fall but three waterfalls. The other two nearby falls are namely Talay Falls and Hidden Falls.

It is a 2-3 hour car drive from Manila. To travel by public transit, take a bus to Santa Cruz, Laguna in Cubao, or Taft Ave. While from Batangas province, ride a jeep to SM City Calamba and drop off at Walter Mart Makiling Calamba. Then ride a jeep to Santa Cruz, Laguna. From there ride a jeep to Lucban and alight at Barangay San Salvador.

Ask the locals to take you to Hulugan Falls' registration hall. Once there, the first step is to register, and then a local tourist guide will be available to accompany each group beginning at the trailhead. The fees for the guide start at P500.

Enjoy the breathtaking views, tranquil surroundings, and a thrilling adventure for nature lovers and explorers.
