Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Vigor Mendoza II directed LTO personnel to intensify road visibility as vehicle numbers surge during the holiday rush.
Mendoza emphasized a focus on truck safety operations, particularly on Metro Manila’s major routes.
He ordered the deployment of additional LTO personnel during nighttime and early morning hours when local government units (LGUs) lifted truck bans.
“Random checks should be conducted, and unless violations are observed, drivers must be reminded to exercise caution and ensure their brakes are functioning properly,” Mendoza stated.
He also mandated enforcers to inspect the roadworthiness of trucks on expressways.
This move follows recent fatal accidents in Quezon City and Parañaque involving trucks, prompting Mendoza to issue show-cause orders to the registered owners and drivers.
The drivers’ licenses were suspended for 90 days, and the trucks were placed under alarm.
To enhance safety efforts, LTO personnel have been deployed along key truck routes, complementing the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), LGU traffic units, and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
