Cheloy Garafil, LTFRB head announced the reopening of 68 routes for traditional and modern jeepneys, 32 for UV Express Service and 33 non-EDSA bus routes.
Before the start of face-to-face classes on August 22, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has reopened 133 public utility vehicle (PUV) routes in Metro Manila.
Cheloy Garafil, LTFRB head, announced the restoration of 33 non-EDSA bus lines, 32 UV Express Service routes, and 68 classic and modernized jeepney routes.
The 11,000 PUV units that will travel the routes will cover the university belt and other area with a high concentration of educational institutions and students, the Philippine Star reported.
Garafil expressed optimism that the added PUV routes would be sufficient to handle the anticipated rise in passenger volume next week.
The LTFRB will begin issuing special permits today, and its offices will be open over the weekend to accommodate bus and jeepney operators.
Garafil said only special permits would be issued instead of franchises or certificates of public convenience so these can be released immediately.
She continued that PUV operators with valid franchises, provisional authorities, and certificates of public convenience with an application for extension of validity would be permitted to operate.
