The ideals and aspirations of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, are highly regarded for their tenacity to build a well-informed society through quality education.
It is these principles that continuously shape, as the previous generations had, the minds of Filipino youth toward the betterment of self and community.
On his 165th birth anniversary, his sweeping message could not be more resonant as the local government unit of Los Baños, Laguna unveiled their newest initiative in honor of Rizal’s significant contribution.
Mayor Niel Andrew Nocon spearheaded the official launch of the Rizal Classrooms of the Future (RCOF) on June 19 at Los Baños Central Elementary School in Barangay Timugan, Los Baños.
Also present during the event were officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) led by Laguna Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Editha Atendido, Dr. Lourdes Bermudez, and Public Schools District Supervisor Dr. Soledad Villanueva.
Inspired by the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program, RCOF aims to incorporate the innovative nature of technology while maintaining a credible approach to education.
According to Nocon, they hope to enhance the educational landscape in Los Baños through the initiative that addresses the critical educational needs of a student.
“The inspiration behind RCOF are the kids enrolled in the ARAL Program. We equip them with tablets to enhance the educational landscape in Los Baños and replicate this in Laguna with the help of our partners,” he said.
Students and teachers were also provided with “Rizal Tablets,” which offer reading and educational materials about the life and lessons of Rizal to further help the students in understanding Philippine history.
But more than technology, the primary goal of the RCOF is to strengthen literacy, critical thinking, innovation, and values formation.
“It took a Jose Rizal to shatter the walls of our minds that were placed by colonizers. Rizal’s problems 165 years ago are also the same problems we encounter now. We draw inspiration from Rizal to meet the challenges of the future,” Nocon stressed.
