A lay Catholic organization has thrown its support behind Vice President Leni Robredo, the latest in a series of religious organizations declaring their support for her presidential bid.
After undergoing a process of discernment, the Lipa Archdiocesan Council of the Laity, signed a statement endorsing the presidential candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo in the upcoming May 9 elections.
“We believe that a good leader must be truthful, honest, just and able to serve the people first before his personal desires. Ma. Leonor “Leni” Gerona Robredo embodies these characteristics as can be seen in her several programs and projects for the marginalized communities and the youth,” the two-page signed statement read.
Signatories to the endorsement include Maria Elizabeth I. Quinto, president; Gerry O. Fetalveco, vice president for Parish Pastoral Council, Loreto C. Guinhawa, VP for religious organizations and Elvira Reyes, treasurer.
The endorsers said they entrust everything to God, through the intercessions of the patron of Taal, Batangas, Our Lady of Caysasay.
The spirit of a true Catholic Batangueno is molded and inspired by the teachings written in the Aral ng Batangueno catechesis Chapter 6 which imparts the ways to attain the fullness of life.

The Council said it believes that the current political situation is entirely different from previous elections because of the ‘infodemic via social media.’
In PCP II (Plenary Council of the Philippines) Art. 8 #1 “it is strongly urged that the Laity must help form the civic conscience of the voting population and work to explicitly promote the election of leaders of true integrity to public office,” they said.
They cited the Verbun Domini of Pope Benedict XVI that states that “it is the primary task of the lay faithful, formed in the school of the Gospel, to be directly involved in political and social activity.”
This should answer the issues raised by other candidates and their supporters about the separation of the church and state and that the church should not meddle in politics.
