ANGONO, Rizal – For next year, the municipal government is expecting significant windfall in the budget allotment for social welfare, health and education with funds coming from what they were able to save since they adopted a hybrid power source.
According to municipal administrator Allan Maniaol, their monthly electricity bills have significantly dropped, allowing the local government to make use of the savings for other purposes, which include providing help to those who have less.
Maniaol noted that the LGU has in fact been paying so much less as compared to what they’ve been spending prior to the use of solar panels, which have been installed atop the municipal hall.
When asked for figures, Maniaol said that they used to pay around P240,000 a month, but has since been reduced by as much as 25 percent since April last year when they started using solar panels to light up their offices.
He, however, admitted that they are still far from achieving their goal – 100 percent use of renewable energy.
To date, the LGU is banking on hybrid sources of energy – solar and the electricity sourced from Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
According to the local official, the monthly Meralco bills corresponding to electricity consumption for the 18 months have gone down.
“Yes, we’ve been saving roughly 25% since April last year and we’re expecting up to a 35% slash soon,” averred Maniaol who hinted at plans to add more solar panels.
Interestingly, the LGU also mulls on expanding the use of the hybrid power system in its satellite offices.
