Remembering Pope Francis' historic 2015 visit to Leyte, the Archdiocese of Palo and Catholic faithful in the province are now one with the Catholic Church in praying for his immediate recovery.
"Our continued Prayers and Masses offered for his health and well-being are our powerful way of showing our love to the Holy Father," Palo Archbishop John Du said in a radio interview.
Du said praying is their way of giving back to the pontiff, who visited them in January 2015 to express solidarity with the victims of Super Typhoon "Yolanda."
"We remember how Pope Francis brought a profound sense of hope and solidarity to our communities affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)," Du said.
"His presence as the vicar of Christ served as a powerful symbol of God’s mercy and compassion, reminding us that we are not alone in our collective efforts of healing and rebuilding."
During his pastoral and state visit on January 15 to 19, 2015, Pope Francis braved Tropical Storm "Amang" in his visit to Tacloban City and Palo.
The visit was highlighted by a solemn Mass held at Tacloban City Airport, where he expressed his solidarity with those who were affected by "Yolanda."
The 88-year-old head of the Catholic Church has been admitted at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome since February 14 due to respiratory ailments.
