A group of dedicated farmers participating in the Community Assistance Program (CAP) recently gathered at the Provincial Government Complex in Palo, Leyte, to receive their agricultural production loan checks.

The event was attended by Provincial Administrator Corazon Alvero and Provincial Agriculturist Imelda Sievert, who emphasized the importance of supporting local agriculture.

The CAP is designed to provide accessible soft loans to individual farmers, fishermen, associations, and micro-cooperatives across Leyte. The primary objective of this program is to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the income of participants, thereby fostering economic growth within rural communities.

Farmers from the municipalities of Palo, Carigara, Merida, and the city of Baybay were among those benefiting from this initiative. They received initial funding ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱100,000, enabling them to cultivate a variety of crops. These crops include ampalaya (bitter gourd), eggplant, tomatoes, hot peppers, and yellow maize. Additionally, the loans will assist in raising goats and egg-laying poultry, diversifying their agricultural ventures and increasing potential income streams.

The CAP offers loans at an attractive 0% interest rate for the first loan, making it easier for farmers to access the capital needed for their agricultural activities. The program sets maximum loan amounts of ₱100,000 for individuals, ₱250,000 for associations, and ₱500,000 for cooperatives, ensuring that a wide range of agricultural enterprises can be supported.

This initiative reflects the government's unwavering commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector and ensuring the sustainability of local farming communities. By providing financial assistance through CAP, farmers are empowered to make significant investments in their crops and livestock. This not only leads to increased productivity and higher incomes but also contributes to the overall economic resilience of the region. As farmers thrive, so too does the community, fostering a brighter future for all involved.
