A newlywed couple who both work at the Department Of Agriculture had a surprise for their wedding guests: bayongs of fruit and vegetables as wedding souvenirs.
PLANNING a wedding can be a headache, primarily due to big expenses that comes with it, which will mostly be used for the venue, food, and more importantly, wedding souvenirs.
But a newlywed couple in Tanauan, Leyte recently found a way to get around the expenses - and spread their advocacy as well.
During their recent wedding, Jonas Buhay and Abigael Sablas decided to give out "bayongs" or baskets filled with vegetables and bananas to their wedding guests.
The bayongs also included a note urging guests to "support our farmers, buy and eat local."
Advocacy
The couple, who both work at the Department of Agriculture (DA), said their unusual wedding souvenir is part of their "agriculture-themed" wedding ceremony.
The two decided to use such a pivotal moment in their lives to spread their advocacy of helping farmers in the region amid the current COVID-19 pandemic.
It is not wrong to ask for a grand celebration for such event, but it is admirable to witness people who use such event not just to highlight themselves, but also uplift the people who play one of the biggest roles in our country, the farmers. (JKA)
