Tacloban City — Residents who are consumers of LEYECO III may experience internet disconnection due to the removal of illegally installed fiber lines on electric poles by internet providers.

In an interview with RMN Tacloban, Leyeco III General Manager Allan Laniba revealed that the electric cooperative had previously issued an ultimatum announcement in March 2023 for a joint pole agreement between LEYECO and internet providers.

However, according to Laniba, only 11 out of over 30 internet providers have reached out to their office to initiate an agreement.

In light of this, internet providers who fail to submit the necessary documents by next week will have their cables detached from the poles.

“This action is taken to maintain the reliability of services dependent on utility poles, improve aesthetics and protect our dear Member-Consumer-Owners from the risk of service interruption, electrocution and fire associated with downed poles and electric lines,” Laniba said in a statement.

Laniba further added that the electric cooperative has a policy that no more than five wires should be attached to each pole.

"If we allow these 30 wires, what will happen to our poles? Only five are for regulation, so they should talk," Laniba said.

LEYECO III will also investigate the legality of the internet providers who have installed their lines on their poles. If proven illegal, they will immediately remove these lines from their poles.

Leyeco III covers the towns of Barugo, Carigara, Capoocan, San Miguel, Tunga, Alangalang, Sta. Fe, Jaro, and Pastrana with more than 40,000 MCOs.
