Dwight Ramos switches teams in his second season in Japan.
Dwight Ramos will remain playing in Japan after signing with a new team in Levanga Hokkaido after completing his debut season with the Toyama Grouses on Wednesday, May 18.
"I'm very excited to play for Hokkaido next season. I was able to visit Hokkaido twice the last season and I loved the city both times," Ramos said.
“I’m also looking forward to playing with very talented players in Hokkaido and hopefully making a run in the playoffs next season! I’m excited to play for the fans and boosters in Hokkaido” he added.
During his stay with Toyama Grouses, Dwight played a total of 46 games and posted an average of 10 points on 42 percent shooting, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in 24 minutes per game.
“Thank you Toyama Grouses for a great rookie year! It was a great experience being around great people,” he wrote on Instagram.
“[Shoutout] to the fans of Toyama, my teammates, coaches, and company staff, you guys were amazing. I look forward to seeing you guys again in the future!”
Ramos was able to help Toyama reach a 24-35 record, which was not enough to make the playoffs, but good enough for seventh place in the Western Conference and 14th overall in the league.
Compared to his fellow Filipinos such as Shiga’s Kiefer Ravena, San-En’s Thirdy Ravena, and playoff-bound Ray Parks of Nagoya, Dwight still has one of the better standings among them.
The 6-foot-4 Ramos now joins a Hokkaido squad which ended up with a 21-35 card last season, ninth in the Eastern Conference and 16th overall in the league behind De'Mon Brooks and Shawn Long despite having less games due to the numerous COVID-related game postponements that plagued the league for quite some time.
