The Covid-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives, and for persons with disabilities (PWDs), it has posed unique challenges. PWDs have been particularly vulnerable to the virus due to underlying health conditions, and have faced additional obstacles in accessing healthcare and support services.

The pandemic has also highlighted the pre-existing inequalities and discrimination faced by PWDs. Many have been excluded from remote work and education opportunities due to a lack of accessibility, while others have faced barriers to accessing essential goods and services.

To ensure that PWDs are not left behind in the Covid-19 response, we need to prioritize their rights and well-being. This includes ensuring that healthcare and support services are accessible and inclusive, and that PWDs have equal opportunities to work and learn remotely. We also need to address the stigma and discrimination faced by PWDs, and promote their full participation in society.

Moreover, the pandemic has also provided an opportunity for us to rethink the way we approach disability inclusion. Rather than viewing disability as a medical issue, we need to adopt a social model of disability that recognizes the impact of social and environmental barriers. This means addressing issues such as accessibility, employment, education, and stigma to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.

In conclusion, the Covid-19 pandemic has posed unique challenges for PWDs, but it has also provided an opportunity to prioritize their rights and well-being. By adopting a social model of disability and ensuring accessibility and inclusion, we can create a more equitable and resilient society that leaves no one behind.
