Former Vice President Leni Robredo has closed the door in running for the Senate this coming midterm elections.
Instead, Robredo says she wants to prioritize running for mayor of her hometown in Naga City during an interview this Friday, June 21.
Robredo is the leader of the Liberal Party and was its chair during her term as vice president but ran for president in the 2022 presidential election as an independent candidate.
Her husband, the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, also served as Naga City mayor from 2001 to 2010.
Despite the fact that she said she will run for mayor of Naga City, she does not want to declare it until she finishes all of her commitments and speaking engagements.
“Before any announcement, I want to settle everything first. I have already asked for permission from LP and some members of the opposition. I haven’t asked for permission from Angat Buhay yet,” she said.
Angat Buhay is a non-government organization she established after her term as vice president.
