Deputy Minority Leader Rep. Bernadette Herrera (Bagong Henerasyon Partylist) has stood by the April 26 deadline imposed by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to register all SIM cards nationwide.

In a press statement, she said, she supports the DICT decision not to extend the deadline to "force all of the signup holdouts to wake up to the reality that they must register now or expect their unregistered SIMs to be deactivated."

She added that Filipinos can take advantage of the Eidl Fitr holiday to have their SIM cards registered.

``I advise the telcos to cancel all the holidays and leaves of their customer service personnel. They should be all hands on deck and make extra effort to serve the registrants at their branches, service outlets, and service kiosks in the coming days,’’ she said.

She reminded telcos to guard against scammers and spammerswho might take advantage of the rush to comply with the registration deadline.

A concerned group protesting the legality of the SIM card registration has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to invalidatethe mandatory registration.
