The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) have finally and officially selected a historical film about the country as the representation at the 98th Oscar Awards of the American Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Paolo Villaluna, Director-General of FAP had announced yesterday that "Magellan," a film about the discovery of the Philippine Islands by Portuguese expeditioner Ferdinand Magellan, is the nation's entry to the Best Foreign Language Film of the 2025 Academy Awards.
Jose Javier Reyes, Chairman of FDCP couldn't contain his pride and joy about the fate of the Diaz project.
Reyes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FDCP, also announced that the agency is also giving a total financial support of one million pesos to the film for its promotional campaign in Hollywood.
"Win or lose, the film deserves our support," said Joey.
"Magellan" will undergo votation among other entries from different parts of the world by members of the Academy and if it gains traction within the parameters of the Oscars, it is nominated to the category.
