Athletes from Laguna did their province - and the Philippines - proud at the recently-concluded 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two-week games, held from December 9 to 20, saw young athletes from the province excel in their respective sports and bring home medals for the Philippines.

Genesis Pible from San Pablo City started the winning streak on December 14, being part of the four-team women shooters who earned a gold medal at the Women’s Production Optic Individual category on December 14.

In the field of esports, Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno from San Pedro City helped the Philippine team "Sibol Men" earn a gold medal for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (Men's Division), defeating Malaysia with a 4-0 score on December 18.

Kim Mangrobang from Santa Rosa City was also part of the three-member Women's Triathlon Relay Team who bagged another gold medal that same day.

Mangrobang, along with Kira Ellis and Erika Nicole Burgos, bested Indonesia by 30 seconds, finishing at 1:10:14.

This is Mangrobang's fifth victory at the SEA Games, after becoming champion at the 2017, 2019 and 2021 SEA Games (women's individual category) and as part of the mixed relay team in 2019.

Finally, Sgt. Romeo Jasmin Jr. of Cabuyao City proved that the Philippines can also win big in baseball, a relatively little-known sport in a country obsessed with basketball.

Jasmin helped the Philippine Baseball Men's Team earn another gold medal after defeating home team Thailand with a 5-3 score last December 12.

The Philippine delegation finished sixth overall in the 33rd SEA Games, earning a total of 277 medals – 50 gold, 73 silver and 154 bronze.
