Clean, potable water should be accessible for every Lagunense.

And as part of its efforts to this end, officials of Laguna Water and Manila Water Foundation signed last Wednesday, November 27, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to improve access to water facilities in various areas in Laguna province, through its "Lingap Laguna" project.

Laguna Water General Manager Constantine Uy, Finance Head Ma. Amparo Silva, and Manila Water Foundation Executive Director Reginald Andal signed the MOA during a ceremony at the Laguna Water main office in Calamba City, Laguna.

"What we want to focus more on is bringing sustainable development programs, as we feel that the real success of a company is measured not only by its financial or operational performance but also by the impact that we make to the communities that we serve," Uy said in his message.

Under the "Lingap Laguna" project, Laguna Water will provide 10 hand-hygiene facilities in 10 areas in Laguna province.

Six sites have already been identified: the Biñan City Development Center; the Jose Zavalla Memorial Elementary School and Caingin Elementary School in Santa Rosa City; the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Cabuyao City; the Pagsanjan Senior High School; and the Laguna University campus in Santa Cruz.

Additional sites are set to be identified by December of this year.

Laguna Water will also donate 15 refrigerated drinking fountains in various public spaces across its concession area.

Aside from the drinking fountains, Laguna Water will also provide for the maintenance of these facilities, including changing the water filters every three months.

As of December 1, 13 sites have been selected by Laguna Water for their water fountains, including:

Biñan City:

  • Santo Tomas Elementary School
  • Dela Paz Elementary School
  • San Francisco Elementary School

Cabuyao City:

  • Cabuyao City Hall
  • Cabuyao Public Market

Santa Rosa City:

  • Dila Elementary School

  • Southville 4 National High School

Pagsanjan:

Provincial Administrator Atty. Dulce Rebanal, representing the provincial government and in her capacity as chairman of the board of Laguna Water, hailed the "Lingap Laguna" project as a step forward in their shared goal of uplifting the lives of every Lagunense.

"This collaboration between Laguna Water and the Manila Water Foundation reflects the true power of partnerships in addressing the needs of our community," she said.
