Cliché as it may sound, one of Jose Rizal’s most-quoted phrases – “Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” – still rings true in today’s world.

And in Laguna province, ten youth organizations were recently feted for their sustainable community project proposals under the provincial government’s SIBOL NG LAGUNA program.

The awards were given out during the 2024 Gawad Kampeon ng Kabataan Awarding Ceremony held at the Laguna Cultural Center in Santa Cruz last September 5.

SIBOL is a flagship program of Gawad Kampeon para sa Kabataan ng Laguna in a tripartite partnership between Gawad Laguna Inc., ModelSK, and Youth Development Affairs Office (YDAO) of the Provincial Government of Laguna.

The program aims to recognize youth organizations for their skills, talent and love for the province’s growth and development.

This year’s winners include the “MASALOK (Changing Lives in Every Shot)” from Santa Rosa City; “Bagbag: Ang Paglilok sa kinabukasan ng Ukit Payti (Katoto)” from Paete; “Project Adbokashi (Rotaract Club of Cavinti)” from Cavinti; and “Scrap to Sustenance: Pioneering Nutritious Edible Snacks from Vegetable Trimmings and Fruit Peels - UP Guild of United Minds (UP Praefects)” from Los Baños.

The roster also includes “PagsanJuanders: A Game of Wonders and Culture - (Pagsanjan Unified Leaders for Service Organization)” from Pagsanjan; “From Weeds to Wonders: Water Hyacinth Bio- Insulation Panels (Libertas Santa Rosa Debate Society)” from Santa Rosa City; and “Heart of Autism: Harmony of Emotions through the ART (BSP- Laguna Council)” from Los Baños.

Completing the ten winners are “Get Closer Project (Peer Advocates for Sexual Health)” from San Pablo City; “PROJECT GREENERY: A Synergy in Promoting Waste Management and Food Security Using In-Vessel Composting and Vertical Farming - UP Guild of United Minds (UP Praefects)” from Los Baños; and “ReLeaf Paper (Changing Lives in Every Shot)” from Santa Rosa City.
