This back-to-school season, students are filled with excitement with their newly painted classrooms, new school supplies, uniforms, and bags thanks to the efforts of various local government units in Laguna as part of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela program.
In Calamba City, Mayor Roseller Rizal led the distribution of learning kits to 120,000 students from daycare to senior high school going from one school to another throughout the month of July.
The City Government of Cabuyao led by Mayor Dennis Hain did the same by distributing free bags with school supplies and uniforms to elementary public school students which is still ongoing this month.
The Los Baños LGU also distributed backpacks and school supplies to daycare students last month. Mayor Anthony Genuino, meanwhile, announced that they will give out free rubber shoes and uniforms to daycare students of the municipality.
For the first time in Pakil history, the local government led by Mayor Vince Soriano distributed free books to elementary schools in the municipality to meet the insufficiency of books using their budget instead of from the national government, July 8.
In San Pedro City, the distribution of free school supplies and uniforms to elementary to senior high school students for the second consecutive year is expected to start within the coming weeks.
For students of the city of Biñan, Mayor Atty. Arman Dimaguila welcomed 400 new scholars under the Iskolar ng Biñan (INB) program during the orientation and awarding of enrollment permits last June 7.
Other LGUs ranging from Sangguniang Kabataan to District Representatives also participated in the Brigada Eskwela under their respective areas.
And all while local figures such as politicians are getting the spotlight, the contributions of teachers, volunteers, and non-government organizations who really did the hard and literally dirty work must also be commended.
