Former DLSU King Archer Renren Ritualo to be at the helm of LSGH Greenies after being appointed as their new head coach.

Former King Archer Renren Ritualo returned to his roots after being named as the new head coach of the La Salle Greenhills Greenies.

The four-time UAAP champion officially joined the team on Friday with the signing of his contract with LSGH Athletic Director Marvin Bienvenida.

“It will be my honor to serve our school La Salle because ever since nung nag-retire ako from the professional basketball, 'yun 'yung gusto kong gawin -- to serve my alma mater La Salle,” Ritualo told ABS-CBN Sports in an exclusive interview.

During his stay with the De La Salle University (DLSU) in the UAAP, Ritualo won four straight championships from 1998-2001, and was also named as the UAAP Rookie of the Year in 1997 and the Finals MVP in his last season.

After his collegiate career, Ritualo turned pro and was drafted eight overall by the FedEx Express and immediately made an impact in the PBA and bagged the Rookie of the Year in 2002.

The PBA standout had a decorated career in the pro ranks, with a championship in the Philippine Cup in 2009, named Mr. Quality Minutes of the league in 2003, and the All-Star 3-point Shootout Crown in 2008, all under his name.

However, according to Ritualo, coaching has never been in his plans but was always keen to give back to the DLSU community after retiring from the PBA in 2014.

“Yes, this is my first head coaching experience,” Ritualo said.

“Coaching is different from playing. It’s a different perspective. I learned a lot of terms of preparation. I hope to bring that with me to LSGH,” he added.

LSGH last won the crown in the NCAA junior level in Season 93, spearheaded by now UAAP Champion from the UP Fighting Maroons, Joel Cagulangan, together with Inand Fornillos, Joshua Marcos, Jacob Lao, RC Calimag, Joshua David and Laid Lepalam, under coach Marvin Bienvenida.
