Kenji Duremdes, son of PBA great Kenneth Duremdes, to join his brother Kylle Magdangal and good friend Echo Laure and Nic Cabanero in UST come UAAP S85.
Kenji Duremdes, 19,a second generation talent, is joining his half-brother Kylle Magdangal at the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers after committing to the school last August22.
Duremdes is the son of PBA Legend Kenneth Dumremdes, who came from the loaded program of the NU Bullpups before transferring to Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California.
The youngster’s decision ultimately came down between the Growling Tigers and the DLSU Green Archers.
“I chose UST because I think it’s the best place for me to grow as a player. I think kasi very fit ako doon,” said Kenji.
Aside from seeing a better opportunity, he chose UST for the familiarity of playing with his brother and be able to team up again with Echo Laure, his teammate in Marina High School, and his close friend Nicael Cabanero.
“It also helped that my brother and Echo were there. Actually, yun yung biggest factor why I went to UST. Very excited ako to be playing with them and Nic.,” Kenji explained.
UST “It feels great knowing that me and my brother will still play together in college and because we have that connection on and off the court. It’s going to be an exciting experience for us,” he then added.
The PBA Legend, Kenneth Duremdes, also approves of his son’s decision and is glad to see both of his sons play for one of the PBA Greats in coach Bal David.
“Malaking bagay ‘yong commitment ni Kenji sa UST dahil gusto niya talaga maglaro sa UST kasama kapatid niya,” said Duremdes to Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
He shared that he is eligible to play by UAAP Season 85 after finishing his high school in California.
Adding three second generation talents in their roster would really boost UST’s campaign in Season 85 after losing Kean Baclaan, who showed a glimpse of his talents in the preseason tournament, to NU, and big man Gani Stevens to the UE Red Warriors.
