Stopping for 'selfies' at the Kaybiang Tunnel is now banned as it allegedly caused heavy traffic buildup and trash pile-up in the area.
Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla has banned any gathering at the tunnel as a safety measure and protect the motoring public.
KAYBIANG Tunnel in the Nasugbu-Ternate Highway which connects Ternate, Cavite and Nasugbu, Batangas is popular among motorcycle riders for its picturesque location.
Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla, however, has banned any gathering at the tunnel as a safety measure and protect the motoring public.
Effective March 19, the tunnel will officially be a ‘No Tourism Zone’ prohibiting parking, loitering, and blowing of horn, among others.
Remulla added he didn't want to be the spoilsport but has to uphold traffic safety.
The following will not be allowed:
1. NO PARKING in the vicinity of the Kaybiang Tunnel.
2. NO BIKE riders using the tunnel for leisure purposes.
3. NO EATING in the vicinity of the tunnel.
4. NO SELFIES in the vicinity of the tunnel.
5. NO LOITERING in the vicinity of the tunnel.
6. NO BLOWING OF HORN inside the tunnel.
To enforce and maintain law and order in the area, police checkpoints will be placed in Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate.
The Ternate-Nasugbu highway allows motorcycles of any size to travel making the route one of the favorites of motorcycle riders and groups. Additionally, the Kaybiang Tunnel is the country's longest underground highway tunnel.
Parking violators, motorcycles included, will be clamped and owners will have to pay penalties in the Trece Martires treasurer’s office.
Meanwhile, Remulla also declared Patungan Beach at Patungan Munti as restricted zone in addition to the Executive Order regarding Kaybiang Tunnel. The governor lists the following as his reasons:
1. NO SANITARY FACILITIES. No toilet, no trash cans in the area, and no cleaning staff.
2. NO LIFEGUARDS ON DUTY.
3. NO PARKING AREAS.
4. NO BUSINESS PERMIT. All stores in the area cannot show a business permit and food handling permit from the municipal.
He adds that the local government is currently working to implement safety procedures in the area.
"Please continue to observe and report any irregularities in these areas," Remulla asks Cavite travelers.
