WE NOTE with pride that Mayor Ernida A. Reynoso of the scenic City of Tayabas is continuing the very important and useful social project called "Kasalang Bayan."
Last May 10, some 45 couples were married during the “Kasalan ng Bayan” held at Casa Comunidad de Tayabas. The difference of this gathering from other Kasalang Bayan in the past is the observance of health protocols such social distancing and wearing of face masks.
Many of the couples who joined this year's Kasalang Bayan were living in for several years and have started to raise children.
In her short remarks to the newlyweds, Mayor Reynoso stressed marriage is a union of heart, mind and soul. But more than this, the institution of marriage is important in the family lives of Filipinos.
The mayor said about the marriage as an institution: “Ito ay iginagawad at ipinagdiriwang bilang isang simbolo ng pagpapahayag sa lipunan ukol sa pag-iisang dibdib ng dalawang tao.”
But more than this, marriage assures some benefits specially for the wife or mother of the kids. It legitimizes the children and gives the wife certain privileges such as social benefits from the SSS or GSIS, in case the husband is working.
“Kasalang Bayan” has been an annual event in the City of Tayabas for the last 14 years. We are happy that Reynoso, and the other mayors before and after her, are continuing the tradition.#
