Being a period movie, "Quezon"--a historical drama on the life and times of Philippine Commonwealth President Manuel Luis Quezon—requires authenticity and veracity not only on the delineation of characterization or verisimilitude of events and other detailed reenactments but the wardrobe as well.

So TBA Studios sees to it that realism reigns in the production so the outfit hires established and knowledgeable costume designers and makers.

The production has chosen two major artisans in the employ of the costumes worn in the 19th century and the onset of a new era in the Philippines.

Two of the most distinguished and veteran costume designers, namely, Rommel Padillo Serrano, Artistic Director of the Kalilayan Folkloric Group of Catanauan, Quezon and Alexander Serrano Tuquero of Pila, Laguna.

From the costume collections of Padillo Serrano and Tuquero the dresses that reflected the 1900s to 1930s were sorted out and selected.

Actress and singer Karylle who plays Dona Aurora Antonia Aragon Quezon is being dressed up with traje de mestiza by Serrano and Tuquero.

In his Facebook wall, Padillo Serrano is gratified for the patronage and usage of Karylle of their gowns that were originally Aurora Quezon's frocks.

"Thanks Karylle Tatlonghari & TBA Studios," said Rommel.

The other collections that are being utilized in the movie are original artifacts of antiquity like peineta (gold & tortoise shell comb), abanico (tortoise shell fan), cañamazo camisa-manggas-pañuelo (hand-suksok design) and kamison (natural cotton weave with hand-embroidery and callado).

Meanwhile, there are replicas of the original items from the wife of Manuel Luis Quezon like porta abanico (fan holder), sobre falda (over skirt) and sayang de cola (skirt with train).

Under the Padilla Serrano department, the following are the artists: Steve Salvador—Costume Designer/Head, Monro Romano—Associate Costume Designer, Dante Alcala—Department Coordinator/Dresser and

Alice Capulong—Wardrobe Master/Dresser.

"Quezon" is being topbilled by Jericho Rosales and directed by Jerrold Tarog.
