Escaped jail. Met death.
Three Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDP) from Southern Leyte Provincial Jail (SLPJ) escaped from their cells last Wednesday, April 24. But their taste of freedom only lasted for a couple of hours.
Police reports stated that PDLs Melchor Maceda, Paul John Seguerra and Claudio Montilla bolted the facility in Maasin City by scaling the fence around 11 p.m. of Tuesday, April 23.
On board a motorcycle which source was not immediately known, the three then allegedly drove to Macrohon town to visit a certain relative.
Afterwhich, reports said the trio were on way back to Maasin when the they were ambushed by a group of unidentified men on board another vehicle.
It remained vague why escapees who successfully escaped prison would travel back to the jail area.
Speculations are rife that the PDLs did not exactly escape. A possibility is that they could have been assisted to go out with the condition that they should return to the faciliy at a given time.
Although it had never been confirmed, this kind of rumor has been going around and not remote in several detention facilities in the region.
Police Sergeant Jierve Laro, officer-on-case of the Maasin City police station, said they are still investigating the allegations.
Maceda and Seguerra were killed on the spot while Montilla was still bought to a hospital in Maasin where he eventually expired.
Police said revenge could be the possible motive of the attack.
“We are considering revenge as a potential motive. Relatives of their victims could be implicated in this incident,” Laro said.
Maceda and Montilla were facing murder charges while Seguerra was detained for illegal drugs.
