If plans do not miscarry, infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, school buildings, tourist facilities, flood control, agricultural intervention in water management, and other government installations will be completed and started in Eastern Visayas this year and early next year.
It was announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 that it is set to undertake 1,521 projects with a total budget of P58.655 billion this year across the six provinces of Eastern Visayas.
To achieve a certain level of economic growth and sustain it, the government recognizes the importance of road connectivity.
Thus, the DPWH will focus on road connectivity projects such as the 288 projects involving road construction, widening, rehabilitation, and improvement, alongside 51 projects for bridge repairs, widening, and new construction.
This year, 175 flood control management structures will also be built in Eastern Visayas, serving as a primary defense against flooding and protecting lives and properties.
The regional office will also prioritize its Convergence and Special Support Program (CSSP).
Included in this special program are 22 projects related to the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP), three projects under the Kalsada Tungo sa Paliparan, Riles at Daungan (KATUPARAN) Program, and four projects under the Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade Infrastructure (ROLL-IT) Program for 2025.
The CSSP projects include seven water supply systems, 14 initiatives under the National Building Program, 587 facilities under the Basic Infrastructure Program, 326 projects under the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps, and 44 road projects funded by the Special Road Fund - Motor Vehicle User's Charge.
Notable high-impact projects funded under GAA 2025 include the Tacloban City Causeway, Samar Island Medical Center, Basey-Maydolong Road, Mahaplag-Hilongos Road, and the Tacloban City Bypass Road Extension.
With these infrastructure projects raining on Region 8, Warays everywhere, not only in Samar and Leyte, have a happy cause for celebration and thanksgiving.
