Here’s a surefire way to beat the heat amid the intense afternoon heat. Why not get yourself cool this time indoors playing Dungeons and Dragons.

On the surface this tabletop roleplaying game might seem like a complicated web of fantasy jargon and mathematics, but it actually is much simpler than that. This unique system of rules facilitates a collaborative storytelling experience that highlights each character’s choices and makes every player feel like a hero. Its game methodology can be easily broken down into the two roles: the players (usually having 3 to 4 per session) and the Dungeon Master (DM for short).

Simply the DM creates a scenario and the players can roleplay their characters as they navigate through the scenario in their own unique way. Of course, there are many nuances to the game than what is just stated previously, but the main bulk of the game is summarized into that singular statement. It lets the creativity of both DMs and players alike spur wildly as they have the power to create scenarios and characters to match every fantasy trope in popular media. The best part being it can be easily facilitated over a table at home, away from the heat, with only some dice and papers (that can also be easily supplemented with free online resources).

This game can also boost critical thinking, problem solving and social skills, judging by what the University of Melbourne has claimed about its positive effects on behavior.

So if I were you start playing Dungeons and Dragons.
