A post by GMA-7 is now fueling speculation that ABS-CBN’s longtime weatherman “Kuya Kim” Atienza is now about to switch networks.
“Paparating Na Si Kuya, Mga Kapuso.”
GMA Public Affairs suspiciously dropped this teaser on their social media account on Wednesday afternoon.
The teaser image features a blurred picture of a man with a finger heart held up. Netizens were quick to assume that ‘Kuya’ is no other than the resident weatherman of ABS CBN’s TV Patrol, Kuya Kim.
To add more to the flame, Atienza also posted a photo of him hugging his fellow TV Patrol anchors with the caption, “No words” the same day the teaser was released.
Kim Atienza, fondly known as Kuya Kim, has been TV Patrol’s weather anchor and host of ‘Weather Weather Lang’ since 2005 when the iconic Ernie Baron left his post due to health issues.
Atienza also came live on Facebook on Tuesday, September 28. In his live, he revealed to his followers that he will be going through a "transition."
He even urged them to watch his segment on TV Patrol on Friday for his announcement. In which he will be seen clarifying the word transition by saying that, “What is the meaning of word transition? It moving from point A to Point B. So it is all I have to say. And this time the transition is going to be real.”
The transition he is alluding to might officially be his transfer to the GMA Network.
"You know, I’ve been gifted by the Lord with signs whenever I pray for signs, whenever I have to make a big decision. I pray for signs, and the signs have been so clear whenever it’s His will. Whenever it’s His will, the signs are so clear in the decision I make," Kuya Kim added.
Fans had a mixed reaction to his sudden transition which led to different comments from netizens. Some are even comparing his transfer as a ‘breakup’ as most Filipinos grew up watching Kuya Kim in the evening news.
It will be interesting to watch what may be his final broadcast in TV Patrol this coming Friday, October 1.
Aside from TV Patrol, his other shows in the network are “Umagang Kay Ganda,” “It’s Showtime” and “Matanglawin.”
