The completion of two significant road projects in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, is poised to enhance access between Negros provinces, according to a report from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Western Visayas (Region 6).

The completed projects - the Kabankalan-Bais Road and the Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road - are expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region.

The Kabankalan-Bais Road, valued at P39.45 million, and the Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road, costing P67.55 million, are crucial infrastructural additions.

Both Bais and Bayawan, as component cities in Negros Oriental, stand to benefit from these developments.

Regional Director of DPWH-6, Sanny Boy Oropel, emphasized that the upgraded roads would offer safer, faster, and more convenient travel options for all road users.

The widened Kabankalan-Bais Road, which passes through Barangay Tagukon in Kabankalan City, now boasts additional lanes on both sides of the existing two-lane road.

This 1.568-lineal-kilometer roadway features enhanced safety measures, including grouted riprap for slope protection and metal guard rails, ensuring a safer and smoother travel experience.

Rodney Gustilo, the Third Engineering District Engineer, highlighted the significance of this road section, emphasizing its role in connecting Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

The expansion facilitates smoother transportation for large trucks carrying goods between the provinces, alleviating traffic congestion and reducing travel time.

Similarly, the Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road, stretching along Barangay Bantayan in Kabankalan City, extends the road network to remote communities in Purok Mambaog.

This expansion provides a vital link between the provinces, particularly through Barangay Mandu-ao in Bayawan City, offering more accessible and cost-effective transportation options.

The completion of these road projects marks a significant step forward in improving regional connectivity and fostering economic development between Negros provinces.
