Imelda Papin isn’t Asia’s Sentimental Songstress for nothing.

She is still one of Asia’s popular singers.

Of course, Imelda also had stints singing abroad especially in the United States where she spent a considerable time when she went with the Marcoses after Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr. was deposed of the presidency by EDSA People Power in 1986 for corruption, human rights violations and other offenses against the people.

When she came back to the Philippines, she was able to revive her singing career and has public service posts, the latest of which is being one of the Directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

It is in her recent show, “Imelda Papin Birthday Special” held at the Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater that she has proven once more her undying popularity.

La Papin could still draw in big crowds because the venue was filled to the rafters.

Before Resorts World, Mel had a huge concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan and it was also successful.

The Asia’s Sentimental Songstress is still a major performer to contend with in the generation of Angelina Quinto, KZ Tandingan, Moira de la Torre and their ilk.

Boy, you should see the diverse audiences that watched the show—from all walks of life in a very distinct yet far from the big city.

Age didn’t show in her performance all throughout the night because Imelda could still sway her hips, walk gingerly, throw her arms in the air, tease the audience etc.

Even if she was busy attending to socio-civic projects of the PCSO, she saw to it that she gives time to herself—she still avoids cold drinks, fatty foods, alcohol and other things that would compromise her voice.

She might have earned some pounds but they were not distractions in her music.

Imelda Papin will always be the Imelda Papin.
